Crimson Gray Coliseum

I have opened my summer workout routine of climbing the seats of the Harvard Stadium. When the place is empty is has this unusual feel to it, you are apart from the world. The massive, first ever reinforced concrete structure of that scale is a beautiful curvaceous shelter of the Roman imperial proportions. I took some photos.

Here in Israel, I call it Communist Gray Cement. It's everywhere. they make everything out of it. Ugly as anything, especially for spaces intended for human habitation.

How wonderful to see a functional, aesthetic application of concrete at Harvard. (I suppose that having money helps…) I know that concrete can be used tastefully but I see so little of it these days. Thanks for the report (and the pics)!

The stadium was built in 1903. Some historical context please.
