LIFE – Moscow – Die Alte Heim in 1959

I feel like paying homage to the alter heim. All photos were taken by Life photographer Jerry Cooke in April of 1959, for the report on religion in CCCP. That was before any significant emigration in the mid sixties. If you recognize any of the people, please let us know. I only recognize Rav Levin in the photos.
Maryina Roscha Shule. Most people here in their 70s born around 1890, give or take a dacade.
Maryina Roscha Shule, If I ever find out who burned the place, there will be trouble.

I don’t care about those details anymore. It is all a grand lie although I am nostalgic about it.
I am interested to know who is the man with his month full, his life, his emotions, his story. You are interested to know who is another framed getchka.
Ben, I enjoyed the “Alter Heim” pictures! But as an increasingly lonely Yiddish speaker, I suggest that you change the heading into “Die Alte Heim”. The gender of inanimate objects follows no universal rules, and helps to identify native speakers from late comers. This works for other languages too! Bernard Wassertzug
Bernard, thank you for your lesson. I made the correction. I remain late for everything…
