On the subject Claim – Van Gogh’s ear ‘cut off by Gauguin’. Yet another theory emerged. The claim that Van Gogh’s ear was cut off in a fight with Gauguin is dismissed. Instead the Van Gogh scholar Martin Bailey “has found evidence that a distraught Vincent van Gogh slashed his ear after learning that his brother, Theo, on whom he depended financially and emotionally, was about to get married”.
