Aaron Haspel wrote: “The punster, the grammarian, the nitpicking fact-checker all display contempt for what is being said. They counterfeit attention.” Seems like a decent description of the Jewish religion, except there is no attention in the sense of an exchange, it’s never a goal or a priority, it’s all about the distraction and diversion from meaning. And this brings me to this question. How do you people of the garb go to your communal websites, read the vile, idiotic anonymous comments, witness the injustice, the crude hierarchical bullying of your inbred handlers, close your eyes on the harm done to people in your communities on daily basis and still look yourself up in the mirror every morning?
There is something else, I am stunned how many of the BTs were attracted to so-called spirituality because it was just the opposite of their natural strengths and proclivities. I am talking people submerged up to their noses in the sensuous world, obsessed with food, lust and children-like thinking in visual images only (did you ever ask yourself why every frum website is all about the pics?). This is such a fake out, it’s unbelievable. Such a negation of every stated and unstated goal and stereotype.
How can I ever live in Israel, it has the two Rs that evoke a visceral reaction in me, the Russians and the Religious. What happened to my people?!

Very good ! Interest in the spiritual is a material pleasure.
Schneur, I mean this as it relates to the individual personalities. I have a friend, if I call him he always says BH and then speaks about nothing but food, making food, buying food, fixing his coffee maker. I hate that, I like to chat about ideas. So I started to count the list of the BTs I know. And 99% are *obsessed* with sensual realm plus the occasional politics. So I though there is a pattern, but an amusing pattern given that *outwardly* they changed their life in the opposite direction.
And not just BTs. But hasn’t this conection between the sensual and the spiritual already been clearly establshed? I’m not sure there is any contradicition here. Your friend’s behaviour is more of a confirmation.
Bill, you have to cut people some slack.
Let’s take Haspel’s idea one step further.
How about the Ba’al Koireh, who’s so busy being medakdek on every t’nueh in the trupp and the dikduk, he has absolutely no idea what he’s saying.
Its’ hard to think when you read out-loud. Don’t blame people for being human.
