I think the breakthrough achievement of the last hundred years is the advances in Biochemistry. The redundancies of the human body is the strength and the weakness. The strength because the body evolved to mitigate various environments and nutrients, the weakness because the body does such a good job in masking the direct relationship between the nutrients and our moods, health and capacities. Hence we and especially the scientists are often blind to the links. The conventional medicine is still in the dark ages in regards to the connection of the various human fuels and health. The pharma industry are the black hat evil practitioners of this magic. Regardless, the lack of basic knowledge in Biochemistry has been a great hindrance in my understanding and even the true self discovery. I am convinced more than ever that a range of physiological and even psychological reactions are on the direct path of the nutrient river.
