Why pretend to know everything?

One of the strangest sides of this culture is that people feel entitled to an opinion about everything, especially things they don’t know first hand. Last week I decided I am going to make my own pickles. I bought a special Italian jar, read online about it, etc. For whatever reason my virgin pickles didn’t come out right. I decided to share my pickle fail with a friend who never cooks, etc. He immediately informed me that “my cucumbers where not good for pickling”. Why do people feel compelled to voice an opinion? We hardly know and understand what we experienced ourselves for years yet people do not hesitate to pretend to know everything.
